y.o.u. is an emotive album of tripped out ambient hip hop instrumentals by from, written and recorded in the mid 90s under trevor jacksons infamous production persona the underdog.

the music for this release was a process of literal catharsis, a purging of a build up of negative thoughts and emotions, but the music is also designed to be confrontational. the intent is to challenge mediocrity, to ask questions about the whole notion of techno as merely a form of debauched escapism. the music also asks questions about destructiveness and apathy. the aim is for something with meaning, as opposed to transience. our demons are your contentments- catharsis is the result of the meeting and collaboration between veteran techno producer -heretic- and dark ambient producer -emission-. the project is a quest to explore and purge negative thoughts via music. a modern ascetic experience in the pursuit of inner peace.

bastinov returns on his beloved etruria beat after the big success of solar system with a brand new four track ep, wormhole. kicking off with the title track, characterized by a powerful 909 groove and strong synth, were plunged deep within its magical atmosphere. materia follows with its wonderful ambient pad and energetic kick, before were taken on a melodic tangent by the synth driven ‘paradox. closing the ep and rolling out another beautifully crafted 909 groove is the thumping quantum gravity.

finally here we are with the fourth release on last drop records, signed by the london-based stavrogin. collectors takes a more subdued approach from his debut on australian label 3bs, focusing on ampdriven ambient textures and digital experimentation. sixty acres is a juddering mass of static textures and penetrative low end, forcing itself to a crumbled close. title track collectors is something like the afterglow. weary and destitute, the track stumbles through heatwave soaked atmospheres, fragmented voices stuttering like a malfunctioning android. are these actual miles? is perhaps the most direct, with its tremors of noise punctuated by a rhythmic pulse. this is a feature italian duo ichinen have capitalised on in their closing remix, reducing the track to a warbling, dead-eyed drum workout.

“if you want to” embodies their sound and the fervent cape town beats scene aptly - esoteric uk influences sit amongst ambient soundscapes and a cracked breakbeat, pinned on a looped bassline - growing in intensity but using the most subtle of touches.
gacha bakradze’s version posits the track somewhere between slow-burning disco and krautrock, framing the character of the original with loose jams on his array of studio gear.
finally, edmondson’s version is a minimal, 2-steppy take honed by the berlin sounds which have pricked his ears for the last couple of years.

design default makes a contemplative debut lp blending ambient soundscapes with electronica & jazz hints. entitled dawn chorus, the record sounds like a reflexion on awakening to new feelings and ideas as well as reminiscing and looking at those that came in the past. the lp opens in a playful and harmonious way with bells play, bringing forward the idea of awakening. the rest of the record designs a world in which slow unfurling soundscapes with heavy bass like the forest or two mirrors consistently stand alongside glitchy atmospheres like the distorted ecce or the celestial escale. tracks like peaks and notes or wood caving put the accent on harmonic and textural content. overall, the record is rooted in a cosmic almost new age ambient tradition, but focuses more on the idea of renewal than vagrancy and languishing. if ecstasy and euphory do not describe the feeling here, darkness doesnt either. the result is a balanced, mature and diverse lp, bringing many beautiful sonic atmospheres to life, and telling a journey of wonder of openness.

rawax welcomes maartenvan der vleuten to the family! we have the honour to present you some unreleased tracks from the 90 ! the dutch producer, composer and recording artist born in vught, the netherlands in 1967. from 1987 to 2007 he has used over two dozen aliases producing detroit techno, electro, house, experimental and ambient tracks and remixes. early 2008 he announced to only use his real name (or his initials mvdv) for future releases. during the 90 s he recorded mainly dance/techno for r&s records, outrage recordings, apollo records (belgium), djax-up-beats, see saw, esp and klang elektronik and several other labels. since 1996 he is also releasing music on his own label signum recordings. the two sublabels of signum, passiflora and glam, are now both defunct. he is the founder of signum recordings, passiflora records and glam records.

like a message in a bottle, carried round by the ocean streams for decades, henrik rylander’s album “fran en obestamd plats i rummet” has floated around in the space of swedish underground music. hoga nord pulls the cork and unfolds the message that is a piece of music that was ahead of its time, sounding now 20 years after its first release in the late nineties. this album is a well-kept secret even for the most initiated music lovers in sweden! the music, influenced by flying saucer attack and other reverb/distortion drenched acts from the early nineties, harmonia and some of kraftwerks earlier works and minimalism, still sounds fresh!
rylander, a member of legendary acts such as union carbide productions and the skull defekts, has been pushing the envelope for electronic music, varying between ambient and noise. rylander’s solo works could be described as sophisticated music and “fran en obestamd plats i rummet” combines the sophisticated sides with his band oriented works that holds another kind of tension.
this record is the first release on the sub label hoga nord arkiv on which releases from the past, that hasn’t got as much attention they deserve gets re-released in an appropriate context.

shlomo takes a step away from his own taapion records to return to delsin for his second full ep for the label. the parisian producer serves up two of his modern techno jams, a lush ambient piece plus a slamming rework by tommy four seven. up first is in absentia: tome 2, a follow up track to his last ep on the label. it is another cold techno cut with turbulent drums down low and icy, slithering hi hats up top all backed by synths that light up the track from behind with a heavenly glow. tbilisian cure is a more abrasive affair with blistered synth lines and scurrying electronics running through the fast and brutal drums. lali then flips the script and offers an ambient excursion with watery synths forming celestial puddles in the sky. it s a zoned out soundtrack that s the perfect comedown. finishing off the ep, 47 label boss tommy four seven flips this one into a weightless techno groove that rocks back and forth on the drums as sweeping chords leave you feeling suspended in mid air. plenty of ground is covered in this one, and all with equally compelling results.

russian producer nocow debuts on rekids with five murky tracks this december. based in st. petersburg, nocow is undoubtedly one of russian electronic musics most remarkable protagonists having released on clone, figure, fauxpas musik, gost zvuk and styrax. recognised for maintaining consistency whilst traversing various sub-genres, nocow is as comfortable producing intricate idm and robust techno as he is calm ambient and melancholic electronica. in soul connection a spoken word vocal mutters over metallic percussion and ominous stabs whilst a dense pad washes over everything. an undulating synth and ethereal effects make up disappear before moving onto syncopated drums and shadowy atmospherics in samaya dolgaya noch. next up, stop is comprised of mesmerising melodies, sturdy kicks and a looped vox until nocow concludes the package with a short 2-step cut titled aesthetic mind.

having only made spotted appearances in the past, icy ambient techno artist winter in june makes a fine first outing on vinyl with a press of his ep eternal lovers. it s prime silent season material, using massive slabs of reverb and a foreboding sense of space as his main weapons while rolling out bleak machine matter that sounds as though it were blown across the tundra. about life & death is particularly moving with its heart monitor bleeps and forlorn strings, while the party is elsewhere is a telling trip into the coldest of coldwave.

owl has previously been spotted on labels such as anekoic, circular limited and planet rhythm, but he made quite an impression with the digital release of his blackstone ep on silent season. now the label have done the right thing and cut the release to vinyl, giving ambient belters such as fragment the chance to sit beside none quieter gems like solar wind on wax. there are whispers of rhythm to be found tucked away in blowing the light, while innominate horizon imparts a little warmth with its tender chords, making this a record rich in variation as much as subtlety.

silent season tap up antenes for a rare 12inch, building on the sizable impact her last and only release on l.i.e.s. had back in 2015. here we get three trips into dark, evocative techno territory as you would expect to find on silent season, leading in with the doom-laden march of dream uncreates the land. take me to the birds (for a) ditches the drums and heads straight into the most delicate and stirring of ambient pieces, while metra train chicago 1000x- makes use of field recordings and processed static to make for an even more immersive listening experience. this is a daring release that eschews the need for functionality to take the listener somewhere else entirely.

having spent seven years in his adopted home of london steadily crafting a hazy, ambiguous identity that fuses ambient onto drone and techno, tom hang (aka lobster theremin boss jimmy asquith) finally steps up to the plate with “to be held in a non position” - a melded one-take lp that explores extended themes of isolation, loneliness, personal loss, disconnection and reconnection with reality and (self)-identity.
through his long-lost label tidy bedroom - on which “to be held in a non position” will be released - tom hang engages in a more introspective path, exploring sonic territories that find an echo with dislocated past experiences, pushing physical and psychic boundaries to get at the crux of intimacy.

reeko debuts on avian. in recent years, the spanish producer’s name has become synonymous with exquisitely produced, hyper-functional techno variants. releases via pole group and planet rhythm as well as the artist’s own mental disorder outlet have seen juan rico develop a distinctive sound that places elements of noise & ambient within a contemporary techno framework – harnessing a dense, abrasive energy without compromising groove. layers of ethereal pads, filtered noise and feedback fx are compounded into a tight, mono space, pushing back on powerful, propulsive low end – making for a decidedly heady listening experience.

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.
